Exploring Steinhatchee
Known for its excellent scalloping in the summer months, Steinhatchee is a coastal community along one of Florida’s most remote and wild shorelines in the Big Bend.
Paddlers will appreciate the put-in at Steinhatchee Falls, which is the region’s broadest waterfall and once a crossing point for Florida pioneers.
A buffer of wildlife and water management areas follows the coastline, with miles of old forest roads to follow and the occasional marked hiking trail.
Paddlers can experience the wildest, most remote segment of the Florida Circumnavigational Paddling Trail along this swampy sweep of the Big Bend.
