Bordered by the tangled floodplain forests of the Yellow River to the north, the 14.3-mile Weaver Creek section of the Florida Trail traverses the western side of Eglin Air Force Base on high, dry sandhills topped with longleaf pine forest and planted pine.
Traversing more than 50 miles of what once was the Choctawhatchee National Forest, the Florida Trail in Eglin Air Force Base offers consistently rugged terrain that backpackers won't find elsewhere in Florida. All hikers, day hikers and backpackers alike, must obtain an Eglin permit and check the daily Public Access Map for base closures before hiking these sections of trail.
